Fate of adventure playground hangs in balance

An adventure playground for disabled children could lose its equipment at a council meeting on Monday next week. The playground in the northwest corner of Palmer Park is used by children of all ages and is particularly enjoyed by disabled children because of its specialist wheelchair equipment. But if the council decides to reduce the size of the playground, which it leases to a community group, the equipment will have to be removed. The group that runs the facility, the East Reading Adventure Playground Association (ERAPA), is hoping a petition of 350 signatures will convince the authority to save it. Debbie Ansell, who chairs ERAPA, said: “We’ve had so many people coming down to the playground after seeing and hearing that it might go, and people have spoken to family and friends. Lots of former users of the park have also come forward. “We’ve not gone round collecting these signatures, people have come forward themselves. “The wheelchair equipment has been there 12 years and it will be sorely missed if it goes.” ...
