Play is a crucial factor in the overall well-being of children. But play in many communities, schools, and families has been pushed to the back burner. Fewer kids spend time every day at a park or playground, recess is disappearing from curriculums, and playgrounds are missing from community and neighborhood development plans. Through the Playmaker Network and the Playful City USA Campaign, the KaBOOM! National Campaign for Play seeks to make play a priority in communities across the nation. More...

Demonstrate Financial Investment

Question. Would you like the numbers from the 2007 budget or the 2008? Could you please specify a little bit more on exactly what KaBoom are looking for, espcially for point number 3 on the application? Thanks

I'm curious about this also...and how do we go about finding out the age of the play equipment?

I don't get it....why wouldn't you just include both 2007 and 2008?

This is a good question that might be best answered with a question(s):

What is your budget year (Sept - Sept, June - June, January - January)? (Knowing that budgets tend to change from time to time...)

If you were looking to benchmark your community's investment in play, what information would be best to provide?

What do your peers in the Park and Rec Department, at City Hall, in the park and playgrounds non-profits think would be the right numbers?  Have you asked them?

Applying for Playful City USA designation is not about checking a series of boxes to win a prize, it's about having the local conversations about what it means to be playful, so that your community can create an agenda for play.

Thanks for your committment to play
