Can anyone tell me how the depth of compressed wood mulch is measured?  I have checked in the ASTM and I know how thick it should be.  Do we just dig a bunch of holes and use a ruler?  Tim ....

We did it, but not without your help!
Posted: 14 Jul 08 1:33 PM

While it took several long hard days, specifically 3 - 9 hour days, our playground is complete!  Thursday and Friday, we had the crew from the equipment vendor, Sports & Recreation Assoc, our roadcrew, the roadcrew from neighboring Hopewell Township and 3 - 14 yr old "young men".  We drilled holes, concreted uprights, put together various components and before long it started to look like the computer designs.  Saturday morning, the volunteers arrived in full force.  We had Cross Creek Ag 4H club, Avella Community Service Club, Avella Boy Scouts and individual family members.  All totalled, we have nearly 100 people show up to shovel gravel, put down geotextile fabric and rake mulch.  A local construction company, QSME, came went of every nut and bolt and tightened and made sure no component was left incomplete.  They enjoyed music, free t-shirt donated by ICCI and lots of free food and drinks.  Before we left for the day, the young cleaning crew washed down the equipment.  Kids that were too little to rake or shovel, were busy constructing the paper link chain to be used for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.  Thanks KaBOOM community for help and suggestions.  Our success is yours.  Pictures to be uploaded soon.

Our engineer specified which geotextile fabric.  The one we used kept the rocks for drainage separated from the mulch, but it let the water pass through to drainage system.  That's the best explanation I have.  Hope it helps.
