Any need for repairs and/or cleanup around Houston?
Posted: 29 Sep 08 4:36 PM
My company is looking for volunteer opportunities around the Houston area for about 30 people. Our original idea was to try and help with cleanup and/or repair of community-used recreation facilities such as ballparks and playgrounds. I came across KaBoom in the search and was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

Thanks!

Hi Jon! Great post Jon. I'm going to spread the word about offer to help throughout the KaBOOM! network, and we also plan to feature your post on the kaboom.org homepage this week. I think your offer is very thoughtful and I'm sure we can find someone to take you up on it. Thanks!

I know that because of KaBOOM! most, if not all, of the community-build projects require a lot of volunteers. I just started my project and won't need volunteers until about May/June 2009. Will you still be available? Also, I know that there are a few playgrounds looking to be built within the next coming months and Amanda Bernard might know more about those projects. Her email is ABernard@kaboom.org

Thanks,

Tiffany Kamp

Hi Jon!

My name is Valerie Jorgensen, I am a first grade teacher and project co-chair on our KaBoom Project at in Aldine ISD in Houston.  We are currently in the process of getting ready for our PlaySpace Build Day on December 2nd and would love to have your organization help us out!  Part of our contract states that we need community members involved and with a project like this, you can never have too many helping hands.  It would require about 8 hours that day and food/drinks will be provided.  Please let me know if you would be available.  We may also need some help on Saturday, November 29th for our site-prep day, but will get back to you on that.  Please contact me at vljorgensen@aldine.k12.tx.us . Thank you!

Smiles,

Valerie

Hey Jon. I am manufacturer rep and have a church in Conroe that could benefit greatly from having someone install their playground.  They will be ordering the equipment shortly and should be ready for install.  I'll be glad to give you more information. Thanks for making a generous offer to the Houston area. Take care. Leigh

Hi Jon,

Thank you for offering to assist with cleanup and repairs around Houston.  We, the Redemption Community Development Corporation, a nonprofit organization, do need help with cleanup and some repairs on a small building at a nature community park that we are developing in the Greenspoint Community, and also clearing the land, after hurricane IKE, for building a playground.  We have schedule a major cleanup day for Saturday, October 11th, and we would appreciate your help.  Please contact me, and I can discuss our needs in more detail.  chorn@redemptioncdc.org  Thanks again.

Hi Jon,

KaBOOM! built two playgrounds at Houston Area YMCAs in July and I hear they suffered some damage during the hurricane. The playgrounds are fine, but some of the other projects we did like a gazebo are not. Please let me know if you are interested in helping them clean up and repair. mdurana@kaboom.org.

Have a great day.

Hi Jon - as if there haven't been enough responses to your generous offer to volunteer, I have another to add!  :)

If your company is still interested in being involved, FUUSA is having their build day Dec. 13th and are looking for volunteers.  It is an all day event partnering with 24 hour fitness.  Food and drinks are provided.

If interested, call Trinell Davis:  713-374-1265

Where would this project be?  How many people would be needed? In what capacity would we be able to help?

Hi - I didn't post in error.  I was letting you know so in case you had any tips you wanted to pass along or other helpful information, we will be doing one right after you and we are neighbors.

Jon - the Build Day is Saturday Dec. 13th and set to be 7:30am-4ish.  We will be utilizing 200 volunteers.  We will be recruiting volunteers and as well as our corporate partner, who has agreed to bringing 100.

We've had one meeting.  Our next meeting is tomorrow.

Any volunteers of 18 years of age and older would be appreciated and there will be specific roles.

If interested, email or call Trinell.  Her email:  tdavis@fuusa.org
