Cesar Chavez Day: From the Community Partners

Carbray.jpgThe Del Rey playground is a blessing for this little rural community.  It will be placed opposite the Boys & Girls Club in Del Rey where 70 kids come everyday to do homework, art, and to play.  We got late notice of the possibility of this playground so we had to hurry and write the proposal and were running around out there in the dirt and dust with our 25’ measuring tape trying to place the playground in the right spot.  This is replace old playground equipment and will be a new-found jewel for these kids.

Our kids are super-excited about the KaBOOM! build.  Every day they are counting down until "THE DAY!"  We've been learning about Cesar Chavez and kids are ready to help paint our mural depicting his struggles.  But most of all, they just want to play on the new equipment!!!

The teachers, staff, and parents have been scurrying around, contacting all the local business to get volunteers and donations of  food and supplies – everything we need to make this a great day for all involved.  We've had a tremendous response, and this whole experience has really brought us together, helping each other.  It's amazing how many are willing to help so that the children can have a new, safe playground!  The news media will be here in force.  We're very proud of all we are accomplishing.  Thanks, KABOOM!!!

Being a part of the KaBOOM! process makes me feel like anything is possible! Who would have thought even a few months ago that Flynn would be getting this beautiful new playground, a mural of Cesar Chavez and a community garden? It's incredible! Kyle is the most pleasant project manager I've ever had the pleasure to work with and she's efficient to boot. Seeing everything come together, week by week in the conference calls, shows what a community can do when we work together. Thanks for reminding us of that, KaBOOM!. Your mission is admirable and I applaud it.

-Stacy Treco, proud Flynn parent
