Tag! Recess Isn't 'It' In A Growing Number of Schools By GEOFF MULVIHILL, Associated Press
CAMDEN, N.J. - All through lunch at Forest Hill School, fifth-grader Daijanae Upshaw picks at her food and watches the clock, waiting for her favorite part of the school day: recess.
"I like that we get to play, that we get a break from work," said the 10-year-old Tuesday as she took a breather from double Dutch jump-roping.
For Upshaw, having 15 or 20 minutes a day where kids set the agenda is not enough. To a growing number of school administrators, though, it's too much.
This week - the first-ever National Recess Week - a couple of groups and private companies are pushing back, trying to revive recess. |
