Area Home Depot Employees and Hands On Birmingham Revitalize Avondale Park Local volunteers participate in Corporate Month of Service initiative The Birmingham Times
Sept. 28, 2006 - Over the course of three days last week, more than 100 volunteers eagerly descended on Avondale Park to remove debris, landscape the grounds, pour cement, paint exterior surfaces and more. Volunteers from the Home Depot and Hands On Birmingham chose to beautify Avondale Park as part of an alliance with KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit that envisions a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
"The project at Avondale Park is one of 1,000 to be completed nationwide during the second annual Corporate Month of Service," said Candi Williams, executive director of Hands On Birmingham. "We are so fortunate to have Home Depot and its employees committed to efforts like this that make a necessary, visible contribution to our community."
"We are appreciative of the hard work and valuable service that these organizations and volunteers have provided to Avondale Park," said Melvin Miller, director of the Birmingham Park and Recreation Board. "We should all be motivated by this successful model of community action." |
