Chris Witulski said a second grade student at Lincoln Elementary School posed an interesting question recently. He wanted to know why other schools in the area had new playground equipment but Lincoln students were still using swings that were installed over 40 years ago.
The question made Witulski, a playground instructional assistant at the school, decide to take action. She recruited the help of fellow Lincoln PIA Gail Ratz, and the two ladies began a drive to raise nearly $20,000 for new playground equipment.

Hi Jeanette,
I agree - brick engraving is a GREAT fundraiser. I did some quick internet research and found out that a standard sized red brick costs about $18. Of course, if you want a fancier brick, special type font, etc, the price goes up. Check out www.bricksrus.com or www.brickgifts.net.
Hope that helps! Goodluck fundraising - I hope to hear more about your project on the forums.

HI TCARNEY- THANKS FOR THE INFO! I WASN'T ABLE TO GET THE SECOND WEBSITE TO OPEN BUT I REALLY LIKE THE FIRST ONE. WE FOUND A LOCAL COMPANY TO DONATE 2 PALLETS OF PAVERS BUT WE ARE HAVING A PROBLEM GETTING THEM ENGRAVED FOR CHEAP. LOCAL ENGRAVER OFFERED US A PRICE OF $80/BRICK, THEN CAME DOWN TO $35. STILL, WE ARE WANTING CHEAPER SO THAT WE CAN RAISE MORE FUNDS. BRICKSRUS MIGHT BE THE WAY TO GO. HOPEFULLY IF WE GO THAT ROUTE WE CAN STILL GET THE 2 PALLETS THAT WERE OFFERED, AS WE WANT MORE WALKWAYS TO MAKE OUR PLAYGROUND MORE ACCESSABLE TO EVERYONE.

Hi Jeanette - $80 a brick!! I'm glad they were able to come down to $35. I forgot to introduce myself before - I'm the Manager of Training and Education at KaBOOM! Did you go to U Play!? You might have met me there. I'm going to ask our Director of Development what she thinks about the brick cost. She presented a fundraising session last year and I know she mentioned brick paving as a good fundraiser.
I'm also a big fan of "selling" a piece of the playground. I remember one group we worked with made a flyer that had a list of everything on the playground - down to pickets of the fence surrounding the structure and slides, individual swings, etc. They listed a price for each - telling potential donors that if they donated a particular amount it would buy X. On the flyer they could check off what they wanted to buy and send a cheque / cash to the listed address. Might be a good way to go!
Goodluck - I'll let you know what I find out about the bricks!
