Study Shows Amish Children More Active and Fit

How much exercise would children get in a world without cars, video games and other modern conveniences? A group of exercise scientists set out to answer that question, studying 139 children, ages 6 to 18, in a conservative Amish community in southern Ontario. Not surprisingly, Amish children far outpaced their non-Amish counterparts in physical activity, says David Bassett, a professor of exercise science at the University of Tennessee and a study author. |
