Girl paintingBELLEVIEW, FL - Red and green monkey bars, a rocket and slides were just a few things children in Belleview said would make up their dream playground.

Dakota Carpenter wanted to see a pool, along with an excavation pit at the playground.

On Thursday, seven children participated in the design phase for a $100,000 interactive playground to be built at the city-operated Cherokee Park a few blocks west of U.S. 441.

Read more about the day (and see a really cute picture of little George Dobkowski) here .

Other tidbits from the article:

  • Ray Anna Plocher said, "It should have a red spinning thing -- kind of like the spinning tea cups and red and yellow monkey bars." She also wanted a trampoline.
  • Natasha Dobkowski wanted to be able to talk into a box and have someone hear her on the other side.
  • It was up to the adults to help pick out what sections of the system to include at the local playground. They weighed options like the "ArcOver," "Helix Net," "RingTangle," "Noodle Pods" and "Swiggle Stix."
  • With the design phase complete, the next step is to secure about 75 community volunteers to help on building day, rain or shine, in February. And additional volunteers will come from Home Depot stores in Ocala, Lady Lake and Leesburg.
