More About Me
As a PTA parent and children's advocate I believe that free play is an essential part of the learning process. My son's school is a participant in a Tap into Fitness program which encourages healthy lifestyle choices, yet it has no playground, just a tarmat where kids play competitive four square. This year, through a generous KaBOOM! grant and other funding, our pta was able to build a playspace which consists of a 4 seat swing set, a 2 tire swing, a see-saw and a climbing aparatus. This is to be suficient for 550 students! We plan to do another build in the next two years, but are frustrated that funding for such equipment comes from the parents and is considered non-important by the school board. Our city of Louisville is called "the city of parks" and "healthy hometown" by the mayor, yet there is no recess. No parks available to underpriveleged kids. This needs to change-and soon!
