| More About Me |
| Hello All,
My name is Deanna - sounds like banana! Otherwise known to the neighborhood kids as "DeeDee". I am very excited about Kaboom UPlay and can not wait to learn all I can to share with my neighbors to get our playspace build of the ground.
I live in Colchester Connecticut, my goal is to organize a build to update our playspaces. Our neighborhood is what the government considers an "affordable housing complex" - truth of the matter is, that our rents have skyrocketed and it is not so "affordable" anymore. You would think that with raising our rents each year, the least they could do would be to maintain the playspaces, after all they are used by over 200 children.
Anyway, that is were I come in. I have started a organization called "People Making a Difference" (PMAD). Our organization advocates and works together on various community projects. Besides serving as a community family advocate, I am also a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) working within the CT Judicial System to find safe, permanent, loving homes for children that have been abused or neglected. I am a single mom (widowed) of three wonderful, energetic and unique kids who absolutely love our neighborhood. I was worried when I had to move our family from our house into an apartment complex, however, in retrospect, it is the best move I made. My kids have grown up in a culturally rich and diverse neighborhood where PLAY, is a important value.
I am looking forward to learning from the Kaboom Experts and networking with others to gain the knowledge and skills in order to come home and share what I have learned with my community. I can not wait to get to work on planning and building an awesome playspace for the children of Country Place!
Peace,
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” Fred Rogers |
