More About Me
I am an elementary physical education teacher in a school of 700+ students (4K-5th grade) in a suburb of Milwaukee, WI. Our school houses the district class for students with special needs. I have been asked to be a part of the committee to make needed changes to the playspace at our school. I am fortunate to work with parents, the principal and a couple teacher to explore the changes that will be made on our playground. We have some issues that will be challenging which include: a small green space which is more dirt/mud/weeds, old tennis courts and an old playground structure that is monkey bars. I personally have been an advocate to allow all students the ability to access all play areas and be involved with their peers. I am a believer in allowing children time and opportunties to be involved in creative, unstructured play. I feel children are being set up to be programmed to be in organized sports too much and too early in their life. I am hoping that being a part of the New Orleans KaBOOM/U-Play convention will introduce me to people with similar interests and ideas as me and my school.
