| More About Me |
Hi, I am Hudson East and live in Austin, Texas. I am in the 8th grade at St. Gabriel's Catholic School and am a Life Scout in Troop 454 of the Boy Scouts of America. I am working on my Eagle Scout project which is to completely replace an aging, unsafe playground with a new, fun, and safe one.
The playground is located at a daycare center that helps working parents that are either teenagers or single mothers. The center takes care of the kids so the parents can work. This is the only playground in walking distance for the neighborhood kids, so there are a lot of kids that play there that don't go to the daycare. The playground is sort of the center of the neighborhood because lots of kids have their birthday parties there and lots of families have picnics. Having a good safe playground here will really mean a lot to a lot of people.
Here is the website for my project:

I found this playground through the Injury Free Coalition for Kids, which is hosted by Children's Medical Center, where my Mom works. They had applied for a grant for this playground before, but couldn't get it.
I met with the people that run the daycare and the kids that go there. Together, we decided what type of playground they needed. It's going to cost about $35,000 to put in the playground we chose. I am scheduled to build my playground on April 27 and 28, 2007.
An Eagle Scout project is all about leadership. For me to get my Eagle Scout badge I have to plan, coordinate, and lead all of this by myself. It's a good thing that there are lots of people that want to help me. |
