We are hopeful to start our second playspace project with KaBOOM and The Home Depot. Our first project was started with an open field with minimum excavation. It was completed in June 2005. The space is posted on KaBOOM web portal as Eagle Advantage Schools.
We are hoping to start our second playspace project soon. This time, we will be upgrading an existing outdated playspace with new colorful equipment. The space is posted on KaBOOM web portal as Eagle Playworld, Waxahachie, Texas. It will require excavation of all equipment. We are in the process of planning the excavation process.
Congratulations on one successful project and another on the way! When you're planning the new equipment for your second playspace, make sure to include elements that are accessible and stimulating for as many children as possilbe. Check out www.kaboom.org/accessibility for information on design and how different types of play help children develop. Good luck with your excavation plans, and if you have any questions, just post them!
Also, you may want to consider replacing some surfacing at your playground as well. KaBOOM!'s Equipment/Surfacing page (http://www.kaboom.org/GettingStarted/EquipmentSurfacing/tabid/90/Default.aspx) has a downloadable 2 page info sheet from the Center for Creative Play that describes the various types of surfacing available. Safety, cost, accessibility, and maintenance are all addressed.
