A Block Party for the Community
Posted: 03 Aug 07 8:31 AM
We are in the process of planning a street party I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on things we could do to raise money, we plan on charging an admission and having food, and baked goods, I am looking for some different ideas...than the basic things we have always done?

Casino tent? Is that legal? Don't church festivals have casino tents all the time?

What about a Tastefest. Get local restaurants (or people on the block) to set up booths selling food, but instead of cash, use tickets for purchasing. Then you overcharge on the tickets. :)

What about pay for play? If you want to hear "We are Family" or the "Macarena", its going to cost 2 dollars.

A couple of questions:

What is the purpose of the street party?

Who is invited? Nieghbors? Businesses? Organizations? Local Elected Officials? Press?

What is your fundraising goal?

I think a Street Party would be a great way to generate awareness for a build, and to raise money.  Solicit donations of fun stuff to raffle, or do a 50/50 raffle, leverage your donations colleced through other donor sources (matching donations), etc.

The attention you get at the Street Party might also be the kick-off for your overall fundraising campaign where you can ask for people to help on the fundraising team, and start some of the fun fundraising ideas listed on the KaBOOM website.  Involve the press, and invite representatives from the civic clubs and chamber of commerce to the Street Party...and ask them to help spread the word!

And...be clear with everyone about what you need.  Specific requests seem to get better responses than general requests for donations.

Good Luck, and let us know how it went!
