One tip is, make sure you meet your kaBOOM requirements...there are several things that are due just before or by your build day...  :-)

Don't over prepare but do be prepared.  If you were having things at certain heights or whatever, then make sure to bring those on a list with you.  I forgot that I wanted the storefront window higher than what the manufacturer instructions stated and so oops, it's not as high now!  But that's OK... because the kids can use it as a seat OR a storefront window. LOL!

Plan side projects JUST IN CASE.

Have someone else be the build day captain so that you can enjoy yourself a little bit now and then, and walk around and talk with people.

Contact the media.  You might feel like it will be just "one more thing to deal with on build day that you really don't want to do", but trust me, ON build day, when you look out and see all the people working, and you're feeling really proud, you'll wish that you HAD contacted them to be there.  Fortunately for us, we just did our playground ribbon cutting ceremony today and we DID ask the media there for this and they did show up!  Yay!

Labels for water bottles...they'll all start to look the same out on the site and will get tossed when half empty...labels help reduce waste.

Think about signage... signs to show people where to find restrooms or food... signs to keep kids off the build site itself...

Think about concrete for footings...having concrete delivered/donated or are you doing it yourself... if doing it yourself, make sure you have enough wheelbarrows for that...even with delivery you still want some wheelbarrows and shovels, too.  Label your own stuff so that you can find it easily and encourage others to do the same.

The dollar stores are a good source for goggles and dust masks and box cutters and so forth BUT check to see if they allow refunds for anything that wasn't opened up out of its package... our local one did not, so I had some "free stuff" to give away at the end of the day.

Remember to use your Home Depot card.  New plants and landscaping bark are a good side project... everything looks better with bark.

Remember your camera.

Do most cities require building permits for playgrounds?  We are getting mixed answers within our own town.

We had the same experience. Our Playground rep said it was rare to have to pull a permit but our City required us to pull a permit for site prep and the build that we just had in Aug. The city waived the fee for us. We checked with another local project that built a playground 3 years ago and they did not have to do any permits. I would check with your Town or City Hall.
