Hi all,
I am a Tulane university professor working with Craig Elementary in the Treme neighborhood, a school that got a KaBOOM playground last year. My freshman students (who are in a seminar on public education in NOLA) are doing a service learning project at Craig this fall: the school wants to beautify the landscape AROUND the playground. We weill be putting in 3 -4 full-day Saturdays of work (18 students or so; I think we can get a lot done!). I've got a landscape architect who is going to volunteer his time to designing sustainable landscaping that we can put in place. I have a modest budget for plants, mulch, fertilizer etc., but I am really worried about equipment and tools: wheelbarrows, rakes, shovels et al are expensive and I hate to waste $ that could go to the plantings themselves on equipment I may have no further use for (and have no place to store). Any advice would be much appreciated. What have you all who have playgrounds done with your landscaping around it?
