Ok, I started planning the constructing of the playground in my town. I have been sending letters now for about a month to places where I could contrust the playground. I have not recieve any letters back. I need to start fundraising now that the winter is approching. I would like some help in how to write a letter to the facility and what I should include in the letter and also if I have to see them what could I say or what could I bring to them?
Thank You,
Samantha Furco
Samantha,
Congratulations on following through with your inititative. I remember being your age and wanting to do big things but getting frustrated when people wouldn't take me seriously. However, you have taken the right approach by putting things in writing. Having a solid, professional-sounding letter and a clearly written plan of action will show adults that you are serious and that you have thought carefully about what you want to do.
I agree with jcooper in that you should spend sometime looking at the KaBOOM! Toolkit for examples of fundraising activities that may work in your situation. These can be adapted to your specific circumstances or used straight out of the box, so to speak. Making a timeline with fundraising goals and goals for getting your message out to the community will help you make things more conrete for organizations you wish to work with in different aspects of the project.
It may also be worthwhile for you to find an adult "mentor" to help coach you through this process. Do you have a good connection with any of your teachers, a clergy member, family friend or relative who has fundraising, organizing or business experience? Having someone you can talk things through with who isn't part of the city committee or any of the orgs you want to work with will be helpful as a sounding board and someone who can provide constructive criticism.
Again, I am very impessed with what you are doing and wish you the best of luck! If you have any specific questions, feel free to contact me at my e-mail address below.
