So far, my playspace dream is all my own. I want to form a team in my community, but I have no idea where to start.
How did other people get started with this process? How did you find people who would help?
That's a great question. I have no idea. I just know the kids in our neighborhood have no place to play.
I welcome any ideas people might have as to where to get started - I think once I get a team together we could find a site together.
Hi Marie,
There is really no limit on who you can ask to be involved in the project. Try to think of the people whose children would be using the space. Are there any Mom's Clubs or Dad's Clubcs in your area? How about a local YMCA? Many times these types of organizations have volunteer networks of extremely involved community members. Another place to look might be the PTA at a local school.
Have you tried looking online to see if there is anyone 'blogging' about playgrounds or advocating for playgrounds in your area? There may be people in your community who are feeling the same way you do!
KaBOOM! also has a section on their website dedicated to advocating for play. Check out kaboom.org/playmaker , and you can sign up to be a playmaker and see other tools to help rally your community to be more playful.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes! :)
