Soil testing: It's important! Here's why.

Two articles have just popped up in the last week about soil contamination at playspaces and future playspaces. In one case, the level of arsenic in the soil was 25 times higher than acceptable levels!

As you're planning your playspace, don't forget to have the soil tested. KaBOOM! has a handy guide to help you with this process.

I think we can all appreciate the potential dangers of high arsenic or lead levels.  Definitely get a soil test done before doing any building.  Using the web is a great way to find local places that will do a soil test.  But another great alternative is to contact a local university.  Often communities have gotten soil tests done for free this way.  Even if a lab usually charges for a soil test, explain to them the project and many will do it for free or at a reduced cost.  I've found that in many cases, companies are willing to donate materials, goods, and services if you are willing to ask and have a worthy cause.
