Service Project Wanted in DC
Posted: 20 May 08 5:03 PM

I am assisting the students of the Washington Ireland Program plan for an intensive 3-4 day community service initiative this July.  The Washington-Ireland Program for Service and Leadership (WIP) is a unique US-Ireland charity that brings together university students of different backgrounds to promote leadership, service and ultimately peace in Ireland.  Each year about 25 university students from Ireland live with US families, work in different internship roles around the DC area and attend leadership courses throughout the summer.  Each group also chooses a service initiative as a way of giving back to the community while they are here.  Last year this extraordinary group of students chose to travel to New Orleans to help with the post-Katrina rebuilding and clean-up efforts, so they are very willing to work hard and get dirty.  This year they would like to stay and work in DC.

I am trying to help these 25 students find a project that they could focus on for 3-4 days at the end of July.
