I am doing research in order to improve the design of playgrounds for children with autism.  If you are a parent raising a child with autism, I would love to know what your fantasy playground would look like.  Make your comments here or go and complete a survey at

As a Boomer, I get the emails from the staff that are in the Gulf area and getting ready for builds next week. Other than the huge hospitality of the people who live in the area, the visiting Boomers seem most impressed by the rain. Lots of rain. Buckets of rain that crash down from the sky every afternoon. I got the following photos from Sarah Pinsky this morning. It chronicles Project Manager Melanie Barnes as she (first) looks for the holes that were dug earlier that day, (second) finds a hole, and (third) empties her boot.

Is there a hole? Melanie finds the hole! Empty the boot

SLAM Magazine has a great effort right now to support KaBOOM!'s Operation Playground to build more playgrounds in the Gulf.  Their site has a strong message from the magazine's editor.  It's encouraging to see that although there is still so much work needed to be done almost two years after Katrina, people still want to help.  You can see the commentary at http://slamonline.com/online/2007/06/slam-gives-back/.
