I'm a new Playmaker - anyone else?

I just have to say that I was touched to have received the purple ball after I submitted my playmaker application!  Thanks, KaBOOM!  I am working on getting some more members for our play advocacy group right now.  How are others doing?

I found out about the Playmaker Network at U Play this year.  I originally was only going to findout how to build a playground and maybe get some money.  Since I had the time I went to the Rally workshop and really got excited about making this bigger than just one playground.

I live just outside of Boston and when I got home I took some of the advocacy material from Kaboom! website and shared it with three friends.  We ended up having an end of the summer PLAY bbq for adults ONLY in our neighborhood. We had all kid games like twister, and even a water slide. And the only thing we did was have a table with the KaBOOM! fact sheets and the Playmaker applications.  And then we just talked up what we could see for our children and our city.  People had so much fun being "kids" again, that 9 people joined our Network.  And we are still growing.  We want to get 25 so that KaBOOM! can come up and facilitate a strategic planning session.
So I just said in a long winded way...enthusiasm is everything.  Make it playful, adults really want an excuse to be child like and follow-up...and use this website, the Rally:Advocate for Play page has tons of stuff on it!

What a great idea for adults only events!  I'm still in the advocate and recruit stages here in San Jose.

Thanks for sharing a great idea! You've inspired me to make sure that I experience the water slide again even though I am an adult now...and more importantly that enthusiasm and creativity can make all the difference.

The City of Scottsdale, Arizona has an AMAZING day of play...in the MUD!!! From obstacles courses, to sand castles and water slides, this is a great idea that may work well for your summer festivals!  It is an event for kids, with plenty of muddy-volunteer opportunities for adults!  Learn all about "Mighty Mud Mania" at: http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/Parks/mmm/ this is a unique tradition in the community, conducted by the Parks and Recreation Department!
