Ok, so I had a thought today that it would be fun to start a thread where people can share their playground stories.  I think this would be something entertaining to read and hopefully people will keep adding to it and it'll just keep growing.  I'm with KaBOOM! and unfortunat....

Drug needles in playgrounds
Posted: 06 Apr 07 11:14 AM

I just saw this post in the Advocacy forum from bobo:

http://www.kaboom.org/Forums/tabid/58/forumid/2549/threadid/2128/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Some kids at a nearby playground found used needles under a bench. What can I do? Should I contact the police?

I live in the inner city and it's difficult to keep our playground clean without graffiti. The park is known to have illegal activities at night and no one does anything about it. Neighborhood Watch doesn't work in our streets, no one is willing to snitch each other out without being intimidated.

*********************************

I wonder if anyone on this forum would have any ideas.

Someone will probably hate me for this suggestion but if needles are a constant problem and you don't feel that can be changed at night- maybe a "sharps" disposal container is in order and talk to the substance abusers about using it.  I don't think junkies hate kids- they'd probably use it if it was convenient.  Feel free to throw rocks at me.

Acid on Playgrounds
Posted: 16 Apr 07 8:47 AM

I just heard this on the news, someone poured acid on a playground in Baltimore, injuring a 2 year old boy. http://abclocal.go.com/wtvg/story?section=local&id=5213211

This happened on April 12 also injuring a 2 year old girl. http://www.kxan.com/Global/story.asp?S=6364189&nav=0s3d

This is extremely upsetting and we all need to be alert to ensure that children using playgrounds are safe.

Peace
