How much recess time do your kids get?
posted by bcwubi  on Jun 30 2008
Hi everyone, I'm currently a project manager for KaBOOM! but I used to teach elementary school.  I find myself often referencing the trend of decreased recess time in our public schools today.  So, I got curious and wanted to ask what you all see in your....

Don't lose hope!

We've been fundraising over the past 5 months and have reached about $10,000. Now that we're getting closer to the build date more and more people are coming forth with individual donations. I'm not sure if its the promise of spring or that they now see that the project has sprouted wings and will fly that there is more interest. Anyway, don't be discouraged if fundraising plateaus, it will pick up again.

What a great story and valuable advice!  Congratulations on your fundraising success!  Nearly all projects reach a fundraising plateau at some point -- once the initial excitement about the project wears off or nearly everyone who can give has given once. -- donations tend to taper off.  A great tip to jumpstart your fundraising again is to create a new sense of urgency with your fundraising campaign.  One example is to take a page from the presidential election and announce a public goal of X donations by X date. You could say 100 donations by the end of the basketball game (or other sporting event) and have the public address announcer keep announcing your totals as the game goes on to encourage people to donate.  Or set a dollar value to want to reach by X date.  Say, $100 dollars in a week or $10,000 pennies in a month.  The key things to remember are to set big but achievable goals and use shorter timelines to generate interest and excitement.  And when you reach the goal, make sure to let everyone know.  People like to be a part of something successful and are more likely to support something that already has support.
