Can anyone tell me how the depth of compressed wood mulch is measured?  I have checked in the ASTM and I know how thick it should be.  Do we just dig a bunch of holes and use a ruler?  Tim ....

Summer Fundraisers

We just had a great end of year picnic at our school.  Everyone came out.  We had hotdogs and chips so it didn't cost us very much.  I don't know how much we made yet.  But our second goal of building a community with-in our school was certainly met.

But now school is over in 2 weeks.  Everyone will be off to summer camp and summer vacations.  Does anyone have ideas for school fundraisers during the summer when you do not have a captive audience?  Our build is the week before school starts so it is not like we can wait till we are back in session.  We have at least $5,000 still to go.  I am open to all suggestions!

Thanks.

Depending on what state you live in, you may be able to manage a Fireworks stand for 4th of July.  This can be very profitable, but you have to have people on site through the night to prevent theft.

Another idea would be to get a booth at a summer county fair, selling food...contact the local fair because I know in our area, they allow groups to donate volunteers to wipe down and bus tables, and then the fair organizers make a donation to their 'group'.  In our area, it's mainly the rotary/disability groups and not an organization like ours (school PTA) but maybe you could find out if your county fair does this, and then ask them to make an exception because you're desperate for money!  Maybe when they find out it is for a playground, they will make an exception!

OutBack Steakhouse is doing a fundraiser for a local junior high, so that people can buy a ticket to eat dinner there... with summer, a lot of families will be eating out.

Talk to the local theatre to see if you can have a movie event.  Before school ends, make sure you have the grade rep moms/dads get phone numbers for all students in their child's classroom, so that you can make phone-tree calls about any fundraising events you are doing, over the summer.
