Volunteer recruitment at a school

Our build is over.  I can now breathe--I think.  We are Jewish Day School with about 200 families. It was amazing, it turned out that 180 volunteers showed up the day of the build.  I still don't know how some people heard about it.  We al....

Can anyone tell me how the depth of compressed wood mulch is measured?  I have checked in the ASTM and I know how thick it should be.  Do we just dig a bunch of holes and use a ruler?  Tim ....

big challenge..
Posted: 13 Feb 08 11:13 AM

One major problem is that I have no idea what to do anymore. I was suppose to be on a committie but no nobody ever called me. The mayor i call him every day and he won't call me back or get ahold of me. I have tried so many different things. I have people behind me but I need to know more about what to do. If anyone could help me that would be great.

Thank You

Have you tried going to the media with this?

They might latch onto a story about a mayor unresponsive to the needs of children with disabilities...

You can either pitch the story to a reporter or write an op/ed piece and see what happens. Get as many people to sign it as possible.

Just a thought!

Sammy12, who's chairing the committee that you're on? I'm not sure if you're in charge or if someone else is chairing the committee. Do you have contact information for the other members? I think that annie's idea of writing a Letter to the Editor is a great one, I would just say to keep it as positive as possible (you don't want to burn any bridges!)

Sammy12,

All the advice given so far is great!  I would also think about chairing the commitee yourself if you are not already the chair.  That way you can be in charge and organize all of the calls, that way you know that they will happen!  Another suggestion is having some type of getogether for everyone that will be involved so that you all have a new starting point, it also helps when the you can connect all of the voices that you are going to be talking with to a face.  Once you have the first couple calls things should start rolling.  Best of luck and def don't burn any bridges like whampton mentioned!
