What is WE Play!?

The KaBOOM! Workshops Entirely on Play (WE Play!) are one-day regional trainings that provide everything you need to know on planning playspace projects. These fun-filled (can you say "kazoo"?), action-packed trainings use the KaBOOM! Community Build Road Map as a framework for building great places to play. A few of the topics we cover are playground safety, surfacing, design, fundraising, and Build Day preparation. Participants represent a variety of organizations, including YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, parks and recreation departments, schools, churches, and neighborhood associations. What’s more exciting? All participants have the opportunity to volunteer at a local playground build the next day. In other words, you’ll come ready to learn and leave ready to play (and plan)!

Read more about the experiences of past WE Play!'s from participants on our community forums. Log in and post a question!
What is a webinar?

Short for web-based seminar, a webinar is an online presentation or seminar with interactive elements — the ability to give, receive and discuss information. In a webinar, each participant sits at his or her own computer and is connected to other participants on the Internet. The presenter speaks over a standard telephone line, pointing out information being presented on screen, and the audience can respond over their own telephones or over an online chat.

KaBOOM! holds two to three webinars each month that cover topics ranging from our community-build model to fundraising to innovative side projects. To participate, all you need are a phone and an Internet connection. The sessions generally last 45-60 minutes each. Check out the schedule of all upcoming webinars and archives.

Hi Laura,

This is Leslie Hinton, Meetings Manager at KaBOOM!. I'm happy to hear that you are attending our WE Play! in Atlanta! It is sure to be a great training...we do already have some registrants and are expecting plenty more. Hopefully, some of those registrants will start to get involved in this forum soon.

In the meantime, why don't you tell me a little bit about your project and what you hope to get out of WE Play!?

In play,
Leslie

My name is Laura McMahon and our project is called Operations Play in Kyle. Our initial plan is to build a public playspace for neighborhood kids with future plans of a sports complex that includes basketball, baseball, and several other activites that promotes exercise and children development.
We have met with a few vendors and the kids have given us their input on what they want and we can't wait to start the actual building process. ( I understand there's quite a bit of work before hand but I thinks it's
exciiting)

When I attend WE Play-ATL, I expect to receive quite a bit of information on fundraising, equipment, surfacing, budgeting and organization of this playspace event.
I look forward to networking with other individuals who are at the same place where we are in our project and also meeting several Kaboom representatives.

Hi, I hope to be going to the Atlanta-WePlay as well.  We are nearing the end of our fundraising and will begin focusing on build day activities and planning (Our Build Date is August 4).  I hope to gain some "rallying" skills as I would like to get everyone PUMPED UP-haha!  I also want more experience with build day events, I hope to volunteer at some upcoming builds in our area as well.  JEANETTE

WE Play! Atlanta begins in less than 6 hours!

We are expecting around 75 attendees, which will make this the largest WE Play! ever. And in order to ensure the kind of interaction we are accusomed to in a WE Play!, we are introducing some program innovations in this WE Play!, for example by running concurrent sessions in the afternoon so that attendees have two choices at any given time, which also creates smaller group sessions.

Atlanta is a special location for KaBOOM! It is the corporate headquarters of The Home Depot, our long-time and largest corporate sponsor. It's the home of several dozen daycare centers that we have worked with in the Smart Start Georgia challenge grants program to build new playgrounds. And we are pleased to be joined by some very special guests today from Park Pride, an organization trhat does incredible work with Atlanta parks and playgrounds.

We have just finished out build day.  I don't think you are going to have to worry about getting people pumped up.  The excitement of the day will be all that is needed.  Good music, good food, and good help makes for a great build day.  (We did not think that our volunteers would have gotten as excited about the build as they were on June 2nd)  It was a great day!!!  Pray for good weather!!
